Blog Entry 3

Hey guys, its me once again back with another weekly blog. Today, ill be sharing with you many interesting things like the mini "drawing lesson", using the Autodesk Fusion 360 to create a photo frame and practical 2 which is about making a cupboard model!! I strongly advice you to read on as this week was extremely eventful and there is just so many thing to cover and many pictures to see!!

During lesson, our teacher taught us a lesson on drawing. As he knew that we were all rusty he gave us some activities to warm up:

Sketching straight lines by drawing two points around 15 cm apart then connect them together free handed without a ruler

Sketching a curve by drawing three points around 10 cm apart then connect them together to form a curve

Sketching a circle by drawing two parallel line then draw a circle in between those line
+
Sketching ellipses by drawing three parallel line then draw an "oval" in between those line

We also drew one-point and two-point perspective drawings

After learning the different methods of drawing, our teacher instructed us to draw the coffee maker we used in practical 1 using what we have learnt

After lesson, my team and I worked together and drew a sketch of the eventual product we wanted to make which is the "saivam converter" which is a machine that makes seitan. It was difficult for us as our machine consisted of many parts which makes drawing it on the paper using the two point perspective hard.

My team and I also worked together to make a photo frame, each one of us did one layer of the photo frame and I did the second layer.

Overall the lesson was fun and very useful, it almost feels like I'm back to my primary and kindergarten where my teachers there taught me about art and craft as well and drawing. I also learnt how to use a very cool software the Autodesk Fusion 360 where I can explore and create anything I wanted in 3D. This was definitely my favourite lesson and I will remember it for years to come

Practical 2

Prior to practical 2, my teacher Mr Chua sent the new groupings for practical 2 and instructed us to work with our new teammates to complete the pre-experiment work.
On the day of the practical, my class went to the W3 workshop and our teacher told us that we could make a cardboard model of anything we wanted!! Before we started making the cardboard model, our teacher also taught us the cardboard fundamentals like the different materials we might need, types of cardboard, cutting tools and techniques to manipulate the cardboard to our desired model.

My group decided that we wanted to build a cardboard model of a house and this is an imagine of it :)

Cardboard model of a house

Me in action!!

After the practical session I felt extremely happy and satisfied with what my group have created. It has been a long time since I last did such a big art and craft project and it turned out to be quite pretty! My group mates and I worked surprisingly well together as it was my first time grouping with some of the people in my group. We even finish our cardboard model the fastest and had extra time to do a bit of clean up.

The cardboard model that we made definitely went according to plan as the house fit very well when we combine and glue all the sides of the walls and the roof together. We even manage to fit a total of 8 different types of cardboard joineries into the house. For instance, roof (L-brace), chimney (flange), door (wire).

We did make some sketches before starting work, we wanted to make sure that we sorted out the dimensions as it would very troublesome to edit the dimensions of the cardboard later on. Although not all of us share the same view for the different components of the house as well as what type of joinery to use, we all manage to settle our on a final sketch which everyone is satisfied and happy with.

I always thought that all cupboards are the same but through this practical, I have learnt a lot about cupboards and broaden my knowledge significantly. I learnt that there are different types of cupboard which include corrugated fibreboard, paperboard, mat board just to name a few and many more. There are also many different types of cutting tools and techniques like using cutting mat, rulers/straight edge and squares, marking, cutting knifes, circle marking, hot melt glue and many more.

Some of the important take away from this practical is learning how to sketch a model in a short amount of time and using tools to make a cupboard model which is a skill that is needed when we are required to make a cupboard model of the chemical device idea my group have in mind "Saivam converter"
